cows, cont’d.

i found out some awful news this week. on the bright side, it correlates well with my previous cow ranting: my host brother hit a cow sometime ago and now has to pay 2000 lari (to whom, i’m not sure). apparently it happened near by when he was heading back to the capital from visiting bakhvi. it ruined his car and he supposedly traded his beloved BMW in to pay the ticket, but i couldn’t help chuckling. just a wee bit.

these past few weeks have breezed by. with visits from friends, the beach and tbilisi, it’s been a great and busy time. summer camp started up last week and thanks to 1 old friend and 1 new friend thursday was the most successful day. unfortunately, i somewhat over estimated the level of english language a lot of these kids have so some of my games were BIG flops. there was a lot of soccer being played because i was at a loss for fun activities. oh well. the perks of being an esl teacher. my georgian language lessons have been going fine. my tutor does not speak english so all the explanations are in georgian, a language, let me remind you, i’m not well-versed in. plus, peace corps didn’t teach us some of the grammar explanations my tutor has been teaching me. needless to say, today was a frustrating day for the both of us. how do i know this, my tutor pointed the word out to me in my georgian/english dictionary. yay. but then she proceeded to tell me i’m a “good girl” and all was better. hopefully. she got paid today, so she’s not allowed to be too bitter.

however, the beach was fantastic. the waves in kobuleti were HUGE. HUGE as in perfect surfing waves if they hadn’t been breaking so close to shore. the bad news is the beach town of kobuleti is closing up shop for the fall and winter seasons so a lot of the restaurants we had wanted to go to are closed, most importantly hamburger max. not fair.

i must put a small bit in here for the PCV in lesotho who lost his life this week. my condolences go out to his family, peace corps-lesotho and all of the UF PCVs serving around the world (we have a number of them here in georgia): http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100905/ARTICLES/100909709/-1/entertainment?p=1&tc=pg

i will not end on a sad note. this week is guaranteed to be a busy one. summer camp is finishing up and i will try to salvage the last of my english teacher dignity. the beer with my director after summer camp today did wonders. as well as the entire box of kraft mac & cheese i devoured. and the endless episodes of buffy the vampire slayer. school starts next week and with that comes responsibility, getting up early, dressing in more than t-shirts and shorts, long days, lack of naps and very little time during the day to be bored…hopefully, on that last part.

i was just reminded it is labor day today so drink up your brewskis and grill some hot dogs and enjoy your day off all you americans out there!

miss you all and thanks for all your support :]
